In late 2007, Tony Tristani was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Colon cancer is the number 2 killer of all caners. Unfortunately Tony's stage four prognosis was the worst possible scenario. The doctors gave him the text book response, "Tony, you have no hope. You only have months of difficult chemotherapy to maintian your qualifty of life. They gave me 1, maybe 2 years to live. I saw this as no hope."
Given little hope with this deadly cancer, Tony turned to his only chance of finding hope. Laying in the hospital bed afer the prognosis, Tony heard what only the Holy Spirit could convey. In His mind he heard his answer, "Tony, God is your hope." Tony says the peace imediately was recieved in his every being. His life had changed.
From there Tony begin to see things differently -- he jokingly told his doctor she made a mistake -- she gave him Lasik surgery by mistake -- he was seeing everything wonderfully and differnt.
Since 2007 (and as of Jan 2010), Tony has had 50 chemo sessions... each one lasting approximately three days. Now his neighbors gather to pray --every Sundsay night before chemos -- 20-30 folks -- many demoniations... we pray for all needs in our community. Study groups emerged, even a well attended Christian (and other denominatinos welcome) youth group led by local high shcool students. We even started a "honey doo list day" for widows in our neighbor hoods help those who have no giftedness in the house to take car or the "man" chores around our homes. Our neighboorhood transformed in to a more caring community where God was no logner kept in the homes, but He was invited to the tennis cours, swimming pool, golf course, and birthday clubs. We talked about regular things but we took the converstaion into a Spiritual realm where there we hope for help in our problems, strength for our families, and agape love for our neighbors.
Today, the Friends of Tony continue to gather often to pray for each other and their friends and neighbors. The work is to do kinds acts and lift others up in their difficult times. They have formed a Charity of Hope; a charity that is dedicated to stamping out cancer, especially the worst kind — the kind that attacks our children. The Friends of Tony’s rallying cry is a statement of hope and truth for all that suffer: God is Good! It’s the hope that no matter what happens in our lives, we have our family, friends, and our God to help us through. And He’ll help us through — because God is Good.
