A collection of stories along the journey of fighting cancer. These are some stories, not necessarily health updates... They didn't really have a time stamp so I put them in this collection.
This is a collection of emails since the beginning of my cancer journey. Ideally I would have started with a blog. Our email TO list got so big and I'm sure the "FWD"'s were just as bad -- this became one of the reasons we wanted to start a website... Now this is just part of the awareness campaign of the Friends of Tony.

I sent this to some friends in the church (and a big tall ugly guy I used to work with – Hi PaulB) this morning… I thought I might share it with you…you’ve probably heard me rant about this stuff lately – sorry if it’s redundant… I just feel that I need to write more of my experiences and thoughts down and share them with the folks that I love. I’m not an insightful or very spiritual person, but I feel God’s love all around me. I hope you feel it too!

I tried to mention a lot of people’s names in this email update.. but that is impossible with so many people holding me to God’s love… Life is wonderful… remember, I have cancer and the doctors say there is no hope… but I still say, I’m loving life and life is awesome. I hope you feel the same way.

I have experienced some really neat things during this “adventure.” But this email tells a tale that I consider to be very unique and wonderful.

An interesting note, from Julie Ellingwood; one of so many that I received from my friends. I include it because it speaks to the story of the comfort cross. God is so good.

I received my first “comfort cross” during the second Rosary. It became part of my experience as I began to share these crosses with anyone whom God tugged at my heart. This is the first time I wrote about the crosses, but it wouldn’t be the last.

Julie Ellingwood is the heart of Friends of Tony. Almost all my updates were originated or sent by Julie to all my friends. I should have had a CaringBridge or blog sight, because the email list was growing and changing constantly. But Julie kept it together. If there is ever an angel on earth, her name would be Julie.

I have experienced some really neat things during this “adventure.” But this email tells a tale that I consider to be very unique and wonderful. The healing service at Christ the King Catholic Church in Buckhead, Georgia. So many wonderful things happened that service… one note can’t contain the feeling, wonder, and awe.

My third email update… I mentioned the CEA tumor marker improvements… every time I prayed that God would lower them by 10%, He would always “one up” me and drop them 11% or 12%. It was almost comical – I knew that He was working miracles in my life… but I didn’t know for how long.

This is my first email update to my friends… I was diagnosed in late November, 2007, I had a colectomy (removed part of my large intestine) on December 14th, and I stared chemotherapy on January 6th, 2008. Our neighborhood had our first Rosary and prayer service the night before… This update is after my second round of chemo (I have them every other week for 3 days in duration.)

Allow me to share one interesting experience with you. A miracle that I experienced with my family and friends. This is an important part of my story, and for some I wonder if it’s hard to believe. Fortunately, my family and my neighbors experienced this with me. So I may be crazy, but I’m pretty honest, but God saw it fit to provide a few witnesses to this story. I call it the “Buck Story” because it’s taken on a life of it’s own. Today my home if filled with gifts from my friends of pictures, figurines, stuffed toys – all antlered deer. Bucks.
